HUMAN-AI CODESIGN FOR FUTURE HUMAN LEARNING

︎︎︎

- About This Event -

As we train machines in learning, how should we approach training in human learning?

"Human-AI Co-Design for Future Human Embodied Learning," an innovative series featuring two sessions of Human-AI co-design pilot workshops paired with audio-visual interactive performances. Hosted by Jiarong Yu and supported by Edinburgh Futures Institute, Edinburgh College of Art, Moray House School of Education and Sport, School of Informatics, Design Informatics, and Inspace Gallery, this event promises an inclusive and diverse discussion on the future of human learning and the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

- Event Highlight -

Lifelong Learning
We all share one identity: Learner. This identity may accompany us throughout our lives. As we train machines in learning, how should we approach training in human learning? How should we prepare us for future Human-AI cooperation?

Cultural Reflections
Inspired by Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall," a 1979 protest against rigid educational systems and spoon-fed teaching, this event also revisits pivotal cultural moments such as the controversy surrounding Barbie's first spoken words, "Mathematics is tough!" in 1992. These reflections prompt a broader discussion on biases within STEM/STEAM and potential shifts in educational paradigms.

Evolving Learning
As traditional subject-divided education confronts the challenges of informational silos, the STEAM approach emerges. By integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, STEAM integrated learning fosters innovative solutions to meet the 21st century's demands.

Intersectionality and Diversity
Participants will collaborate with generative AI, discussing and exploring future learning possibilities. Aiming to explore the multifaceted dimensions of intersectionality, including abilities, diversity, wealth, language, gender, citizenship, and race, this event seeks energetic participants from diverse backgrounds, ready to engage in the discussions and experiences.

- Research Innovation -

Jiarong Yu, leads this project as the experimental part of her doctoral research. Focusing on Human-AI interaction and embodied informatics within the context of learning design and human intellectual augmentation, she explores the potential for a human-centric STEAM education. In the part of performance, featuring contributions from Hal Xu on May 1st and Root Cai on May 9th, she has enlisted the collaboration of these two distinguished artists and engineers to craft an immersive space that facilitates participant engagement with generative AI, discussing future learning possibilities.
